The entry experience at Peck entrance and the layout of the Habush Fitness Floor are being reimagined. A new, member-facing reception desk is being installed, along with membership sales and services offices. A member lounge is being added at the entrance to the Marcus Gym. New equipment and arrangement will be placed on new flooring. A functional stretch area, free weight circuit, and a new universal training system will be installed.
The stairs leading up from the locker rooms to the fitness floor will be renovated and serve as the primary access point between the two floors. The doors between the fitness floor and the Marcus Gym will be sealed, improving traffic flow and increasing functional floor space.
A member services kiosk will be installed to better serve our members with registration, fitness consultation, and other services.
This project will extend through the summer, with a scheduled reopening in early September.
The Health Centers will receive new flooring, and upgraded lounge experience, functional maintenance to the whirlpools and steam rooms, and a review of our amenity services. This project is expected to last no longer than six weeks, with Health Centers reopening for full service in June.
Hourly childcare (TotSpot) will move from its current location closer to the locker rooms, and will occupy the space previously housing the spa. The space will be renovated specifically for hourly childcare services, with a new layout and investments specific to serving our youngest members. This project will begin as soon as possible, with no determined transition date.
When will construction start and end?
The Daniel M. Soref Community Hall will close on Thursday, May 12th to prepare for transition to our temporary fitness facility. We anticipate closing the fitness facility on Thursday, May 19th and moving equipment during that day. The fitness floor (including personal training space) will reopen in the Daniel M. Soref Community Hall on Friday, May 20th at 5:00 am.
The Health Centers are scheduled to close for renovation on Thursday, May 19th, and are tentatively scheduled to reopen on June 20th. We are currently working on a plan for laundry and amenity service during this brief interruption.
Work has already begun on constructing the former spa space for Hourly Childcare. No definitive date has been announced for that transition.
How will I be able TO enter the main building?
The primary access point for all members and guest will be the Marcus Pavilion (the west desk.) Parking will remain available at the Peck lot for all guests, though foot traffic will be diverted to the Marcus Pavilion. Gan Ami and camp families will continue to have access at both the Soref and Garden lots.
Will I be able to use the fitness center and how will I access it?
Yes! The fitness center will be temporarily moved to the Daniel M. Soref Community Hall. Members will still have access to the Marcus Gym, indoor track, and all fitness studios (Group Fitness, Yoga, Pilates, and Indoor Cycling.)
Will hours of operation be impacted?
With the exception of transition days (May 19th and a date in late summer to be determined) our summer hours will not be impacted.
Will I be able to utilize the Health Center and locker rooms?
The Men’s and Women’s locker rooms will be fully accessible throughout the project. The Men’s and Women’s Health Centers will be closed from late May through June for their unique investment efforts. The Health Centers are scheduled to reopen in late June. Click here for specific Health Center updates.
How will parking be impacted?
Parking lots will remain open and available for all members and guests. However, the Peck entrance will be inaccessible throughout the project, and members will be asked to check-in at the Marcus Pavilion (West Desk.)
Staff parking will be transitioned to the North Building for the duration of the improvement efforts.
WILL THERE BE NEW EQUIPMENT ON THE FITNESS FLOOR?
The Health, Recreation & Fitness Task Force, in partnership with professional staff, are currently reviewing final purchases and floor layout. At the conclusion of this improvement, the vast majority of our machinery and equipment will have been upgraded or purchased within the last three years.
We anticipate installing a new circuit of selectorized weight equipment, a functional training/stretch area will be designated, several new pieces of free weights will be added, and a number of changes to our cardio equipment will be implemented.
What steps are being taken to ensure the safety of our members?
Construction areas will be clearly marked and sequestered. The Peck entrance and fitness floor will be inaccessible to members and guests. Transition areas will be established to ensure the safe and comfortable passage of guests throughout the building.
What steps are being taken to ensure the security of our members and children at the JCC?
The JCC will continue to employ its secure access policies at all points of entrance, asking members and guests to check in. Vendors and contractors will be clearly identified and cleared through our current protocol.
I am concerned about parking and getting to program areas or classes in the building.
Though all parking areas will continue to be available, we do anticipate increased foot traffic at our Marcus Pavilion (West Desk) and encourage our members and guests to allow for extra time at peak hours (early morning, during day camp drop off and pick up, early evening, and during special events.)
Will there be signs to direct me?
Yes! The building will be clearly marked.
Will indoor cycling classes be affected?
No! Our summer session of classes and programs will continue as scheduled.
Will yoga classes in the Yoga Studio be affected?
No! Our summer session of classes and programs will continue as scheduled!
My kids go to summer camp at the JCC. Where should they be dropped off and picked up?
The camp team will be clarifying pick up, drop off, bus departure, and before/after care procedures as we approach the camp season. We are confident that this experience will remain efficient, safe, and a fun extension of camp!
Will classes in the group fitness studios be affected?
Our summer session of classes and programs will continue as scheduled. We do, historically, offer additional classes at the Hy & Richard Smith JCC Water Park during the summer.
Will the pools be accessible and open?
Yes, both pools at the Peck Aquatic Center (large and family) and all pools at the Hy & Richard Smith JCC Water Park will be open during this improvement effort. Men’s, Women’s, and Family General Locker Rooms will be accessible.
Will hourly child care at Tot Spot be available?
Yes! Service will continue uninterrupted throughout this project. As we approach completion of the new Hourly Child Care space, we will communicate our transition plan and timing.
How will classes and other programming be impacted?
Summer is our lightest programmatic season – the JCC is in full swing with camps, programs, events, and activities at the Hy & Richard Smith JCC Water Park. Though space will be limited during this investment period, we believe all programs and classes will remain as scheduled.
I have a meeting schedule at the JCC; will it still take place?
All meetings and events that will require move or cancellation have already been personally contacted. Given the limitations on space during this investment period, we encourage all prospective renters and guests to reserve as early as possible for summer space. Please contact Sarah Vogds at 414-967-8283 for availability and reservations.
How will the renovation affect staff locations?
These improvements will markedly improve the member service experience, and empower our staff to meet your needs in a present and efficient manner. New workstations are being built throughout the building to ensure that our staff are available and highly visible both during, and at the completion of, this comprehensive investment effort.
